Madam & Eve Women Portraying Women
In this thought-provoking book, artist Liz Rideal and curator Kathleen Soriano explore the specifically female development of artistic practice since the 1970s. They also explore the impact that various feminist movements have had on the development of contemporary art. The authors introduce a range of artworks by two hundred female artists, dividing the chosen works into five themes: Body, Life, Death, Stories and Icons. Madam & Eve is not only a visual celebration of art by women, but a testament to the significant contribution made by female artists to the visual document of the last half century. Liz Rideal is an artist and reader in fine art, Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. Kathleen Soriano is an independent curator, broadcaster and chair of the Liverpool Biennial.
